What is Coaching?

What is NLP?
 
NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. It’s a useful set of tools to help communicate better, learn new attitudes, change limiting behaviours and give people the personal freedom to choose the way they want to be. We are constantly “programming” ourselves with how we think and speak - “oh, I couldn’t do that”; “That’s too difficult”, “I’m too scared”, “I’m afraid I’ll fail”. These self-messages create the way we look at ourselves and our world. If we send ourselves positive, - empowering messages - we can change the results we are getting, easily and effectively.
 
Using NLP is like learning to speak the language of your own subconscious mind.  When you speak the same language you can communicate better with your deepest beliefs and thoughts, and make the changes you want to seem easy.
 
Isn’t that like therapy?
 
No, definitely not. Where therapy looks to find solutions to the difficulties of the past, coaching is anchored in the here-and-now. We look at where you are now and where you want to go. Then together we work out how you get there. It doesn’t mean that we ignore the past, but the value of the past (the good and the bad) is in terms of what we can learn from it and use to move you forward in a positive, life-affirming way.
 
How is Life Coaching different to Business Coaching?
 
I believe all coaching is LIFE coaching. Your business, your relationships, your career - it’s all life. A coach is always working for the benefit of the person, whether in a personal or business scenario. However, I am not a business consultant. I am not an accountant or tax expert. What I am interested in is how starting up, running and being in business affects YOU. If your business would benefit from clear direction, motivation, stress reduction, improved relationships, goal setting, positive thinking etc. then - as far as I’m concerned - that’s Life Coaching.
 
What if I don’t know what I want?
 
I believe it’s just a case of not realising that you know what you want. Sometimes we feel that our lives are going nowhere. We know we want more, or different things in our lives, but we can’t always identify what. Using NLP skills and techniques, coaching can help you analyse and discover the areas of your life where you want to focus or make changes. Then, working together, you can work towards getting the results you want.
 
What happens during a typical session?
 
The first consultation, which is FREE, will simply be an occasion for us to get to know each other and discover where are the areas you feel you need coaching. Each session involves a review of any previous work, analysis of the issues for coaching, discussion and identifying desirable outcomes. Sessions will also involve relaxation and an evaluation of our work together. As your coach, I will encourage you to set goals that you truly want, keep you focused on your goals, support you and help you to produce results more quickly.
